“I was so happy dancing that I forgot who I was hugging.”

.

The other night, a milonguero friend told me about an experience that many of us have surely had or will soon have.

He was so into the dance and, the moment that he suddenly realized he didn’t know who he was dancing with. Crazy! But you know what, it doesn’t matter who you’re dancing with, it’s what you’re feeling at that moment.

These conversations, whether at night, outside or inside the milonga, with friends or with students, are my motivation and my challenge to create these 5-minute BlogCasts.

I want to accompany you and leave you thinking about all those things that happen in the mysterious environment of tango, topics that sometimes we don’t dare to talk about or that we think only happen to us.

Has it ever happened to you that you are dancing and, suddenly, you don’t remember who you are dancing with? It doesn’t mean you don’t care. Sometimes we dance with someone and never ask their name. But other times, we dance with someone we don’t know, or they ask us to dance and we just flow with the music and the embrace, without stopping to think about who that person is.

And it is even more fascinating when you dance with someone you know. You concentrate so hard, you get so excited, you get so into the embrace and, at the end, you don’t know who you were dancing with. Because you were so happy, flowing so much with the connection, the music, the embrace, that it didn’t matter who it was, but how you felt.

So, does it matter who you are dancing with or what you feel? Or does it matter both?

I think tango teaches us that the present moment, the here and now, is what matters. Those milongas where the embrace and the connection with the music make us forget everything else are the ones we remember most fondly. Those are the experiences that nourish us and remind us why we love this dance so much.

“It doesn’t matter who you are, but what you feel when you dance.”

Final Conclusion:

In tango, as in life, sometimes we find ourselves so immersed in the moment, in the emotion and the connection, that we forget the details that we think are important. And it is in those moments that we live and feel. So, the next time you’re on the dance floor, allow yourself to get lost in the embrace, in the music, and in the magic of the tango.

And remember that maybe that moment will never come back, but just in case, ask her name!
