Embrace Slowness:

Audio only in Spanish – Video Below

In a world where frenetic pace seems to be the norm, the idea of «embracing slowness» may sound countercultural. But what does it really mean to embrace slowness? Is it simply to let go, to pause, to not rush? Or is it something deeper and more transformative?

The Value of Slowness in Life and Dance

Imagine your daily routine: you wake up, quickly get ready for work, rush to get there on time, and after a day full of meetings and tasks, you come home only to keep running, whether it’s shopping, cooking or fulfilling more responsibilities. This cycle can become exhausting and often leaves us with no time for ourselves, no room to breathe.

Slowness, however, does not mean laziness or inefficiency. In the context of tango, embracing slowness can transform your dance from a series of quick, automatic movements to an experience full of intention and connection. In life, embracing slowness allows us to be present, enjoy the moment and find peace in the midst of chaos.

A Personal Experience

I remember a class in which one of my students, who used to have a very busy schedule, arrived visibly stressed. I suggested that, during the class, she try to forget about the clock and just let herself be carried away by the music. We started the class with slow, leisurely movements, feeling every step and every note, and then continued with more action. At the end of the class, she looked at me and said, «Today I really felt more connected to the dance and this is what I needed» Thank you. This simple experience reminded me how important it is to embrace slowness, both in dance and in life.

The Magic of Slowness in Tango

Slowness in tango does not mean being late or making movements without grace. On the contrary, it allows the dance to have fluidity, contrasts and colors. A slow step, well executed, can convey more emotion and connection than a series of fast and hurried movements. Slowness gives us time to feel, to listen to our partner and the music, and to express what we are really experiencing in that moment.
