I gave it all dancing, but do I give it all to me?
Dear reader,
Today I want to invite you to a reflection that I think is essential for all of us:
“I gave it all dancing, but do I give it all to me?”
It is a theme that arises from questioning ourselves to whom we are giving our effort and passion. While I don’t know exactly how to start, I have heard this concern many times: we give it all in dancing, in the gym, and everyday life, but do we give it all to ourselves as well?
Audio only in Spanish
A
.
Who do you give it all to when we dance?
Think about that time you gave it all when you danced. You gave it all to whom? To your partner, to the audience, to the dance floor, to the night, to the music, to your imagination?
It’s easy to get into doubt because many times we give ourselves completely to others. We go to the gym, we push ourselves, we sweat, we get tired, we hurt everything. At the milonga, we did all the trimmings, we embraced our partner with strength and love, and we showed off on the dance floor with our energy. But did we also do all that for ourselves, or were we empty?
Reflecting on “giving our all
When we say “I gave it my all,” what does it mean? Maybe it means that you put all your love, energy, dedication in that moment, experience, and passion. But what about you, are you giving that love and dedication to yourself? It is essential to ask ourselves if, in our giving to others, we are forgetting ourselves.
For whom am I giving?
This is the key question: are we giving to meet the expectations of others or to meet ourselves? Dancing, like any other activity, can be a form of expression and connection with others. However, we must not forget that it should also be a way of connecting with ourselves. Are you feeling full and satisfied with what you give, or do you feel that you are exhausting yourself to please others?
.
The balance between giving and receiving
.
.
It is crucial to find a balance between what we give and what we receive. Yes, it’s wonderful to give yourself in dance and feel that connection with your partner and the music.
But you must also give that time and space to yourself. Reflect on how you feel after giving it all. Do you feel happy, fulfilled, and at peace? Or, on the contrary, do you feel exhausted, and empty, without receiving anything in return?
Give everything, but also give it to yourself.
.
Remember that to give the best of yourself, you first need to give the best of yourself. Take care of yourself, listen to your body, to your emotions. Allow yourself to receive, not only from others but from yourself. Practice self-compassion and self-care. It’s not just about being generous to others, but also about being generous to yourself.
In my book, “Shine in your tango”, you will find tools and reflections to connect not only with the dance but also with yourself. It is an invitation to discover how you can give yourself the love and dedication you deserve, so you can shine on the dance floor and in life with all your authenticity and strength.
I would love to know how you feel about this topic, do you give it all to yourself when you give it all in dance? Share your experiences and reflections in the comments. Together, we can find balance and fulfillment in every step we take.

A

What did I learn from my Jewelry Expert Student What? Yes, Jewelry Expert. And what’s that got to do with it?
I’ll tell you more…
Focus on Dancing
Audio in Spanish
One day, while preparing some bookmarks to give away (Special Bookmarks for “SHINE’), I found myself in a situation that taught me a valuable lesson about focus. And of course, I automatically related it to dancing.
These bookmarks were very different, made with beads and elastic, and it had taken me quite some time to create each one.
They were all ready, beautiful, and unique, but suddenly, I opened the box on a trip, and they were all tangled up. No, imagine my face when I saw them tangled, I was in the middle of a milonga after a class, with people talking to me, ready to sign my books and give away the bookmarks, they were there like a tangle of threads impossible to separate.
.
.
I sat, breathing, trying to untangle one by one, but it seemed that each attempt only made things worse. Stress began to take hold of me.
How was I going to give away these bookmarks if I couldn’t free them from the chaos they were trapped in?
Just as I was about to cut the elastics and give up, one of my students, a jewelry expert, came up to me and said, “I’ll help you.”
Calmly and confidently, she added: “You must focus and follow just one. That’s how you’ll solve the tangle.
His advice was revealing. Instead of trying to solve everything at once, I focused on a single thread. Little by little, with patience and determination, each bookmark was freed from the tangle. I learned that by focusing on just one problem at a time, we can unravel even the most complicated tangles.
The Moral of Focus
So the moral: solving one problem at a time allows us to untangle more complex situations more easily. By putting more focus in one direction without losing the thread, we achieve more optimal and efficient results.
This is not to say that we can never focus on more than 1 thing. I sometimes do it heh!!!…. then you will see which way has better results.
In life and tango, it is common to encounter situations that overwhelm us. It can be a dance step that doesn’t work, a choreography that seems impossible, or even personal challenges that overwhelm us. The key is to stay focused.
Instead of trying to solve everything at once, it is more effective to concentrate on one aspect at a time, devote our full attention and effort to it, and then move on to the next.
“The key to success is to focus our conscious mind on the things we desire, not the things we fear.” – Brian Tracy.
Tips for Improving Focus
Prioritize your tasks: Identify what is most important and focus on that before moving on to the next task.
Eliminate distractions: Turn off mobile notifications and create an interruption-free workspace.
Take regular breaks: The Pomodoro method, which suggests working in 25-minute intervals with short breaks, can improve concentration.
Practice meditation or mindfulness: These techniques help train the mind to keep attention in the present. You can start with a 5-minute audio (like this one).
Set clear goals: Define specific and achievable goals to keep you focused. Then go for more.
The Wisdom of Tango
This lesson applies not only to everyday problems but also to our tango practice.
Many times we want to learn all the embellishments and steps at once, but this can lead to feeling overwhelmed and unmotivated.
Instead, we can focus on one specific Adorno, perfect it, and then move on to the next. This way, our progress will be more effective and we will notice more significant improvements.
Focus is a powerful tool. It allows us to approach challenges with clarity and efficiency and helps us stay focused on our goals.
Learning to focus on one task at a time will not only help us solve problems more quickly, but it will also bring us a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.
So the next time you find yourself entangled in your challenges, remember my jewelry student’s lesson. Take a breath, pick one problem at a time, and focus on untangling it with patience and determination.
You will see how, little by little, chaos transforms into order and the results begin to shine.
And so… do you remember a story that has marked you?

“I was so happy dancing that I forgot who I was hugging.”
Hello Dear Tanguera
Today I want to share a reflection on one of those magical Milonga nights. ( Social dance)
Audio in Spanish
A
“I was so happy dancing that I forgot who I was hugging.”
.
The other night, a milonguero friend told me about an experience that many of us have surely had or will soon have.
He was so into the dance and, the moment that he suddenly realized he didn’t know who he was dancing with. Crazy! But you know what, it doesn’t matter who you’re dancing with, it’s what you’re feeling at that moment.
These conversations, whether at night, outside or inside the milonga, with friends or with students, are my motivation and my challenge to create these 5-minute BlogCasts.
I want to accompany you and leave you thinking about all those things that happen in the mysterious environment of tango, topics that sometimes we don’t dare to talk about or that we think only happen to us.
Has it ever happened to you that you are dancing and, suddenly, you don’t remember who you are dancing with? It doesn’t mean you don’t care. Sometimes we dance with someone and never ask their name. But other times, we dance with someone we don’t know, or they ask us to dance and we just flow with the music and the embrace, without stopping to think about who that person is.
And it is even more fascinating when you dance with someone you know. You concentrate so hard, you get so excited, you get so into the embrace and, at the end, you don’t know who you were dancing with. Because you were so happy, flowing so much with the connection, the music, the embrace, that it didn’t matter who it was, but how you felt.
So, does it matter who you are dancing with or what you feel? Or does it matter both?
I think tango teaches us that the present moment, the here and now, is what matters. Those milongas where the embrace and the connection with the music make us forget everything else are the ones we remember most fondly. Those are the experiences that nourish us and remind us why we love this dance so much.
“It doesn’t matter who you are, but what you feel when you dance.”
Final Conclusion:
In tango, as in life, sometimes we find ourselves so immersed in the moment, in the emotion and the connection, that we forget the details that we think are important. And it is in those moments that we live and feel. So, the next time you’re on the dance floor, allow yourself to get lost in the embrace, in the music, and in the magic of the tango.
And remember that maybe that moment will never come back, but just in case, ask her name!

Today I want to talk to you about something that I know fascinates you as much as it does me: the adornments in tango. This topic mobilizes many tangueras, since we all want to be creative, add that special touch to our dance, and stand out on the dance floor. I find it very interesting to reflect on «the most sought after adornment».
What is your most wanted adornment?
Have you ever wondered what is your favorite ornament, the one that everyone does, or the one that no other tanguera does, or maybe one that makes you feel special and satisfied? Are you looking for an ornament to embellish your dance, to feel unique, or to achieve something that no one else does? Or maybe you want to master a popular embellishment so you don’t fall out of fashion?
For what and for whom do we embellish?
It’s important to ask ourselves, for what and for whom do we seek special ornaments? Sometimes, we look for embellishments to feel accepted, to elevate our dancing or just to have fun and not be bored. Other times, we want that one ornament that everyone else does, so we don’t feel out of place. Are you looking for a different ornament to stand out, or a popular one to fit in?
The importance of authenticity
As a teacher and coach, I have observed that many times we are attracted to an embellishment because of its complexity or visuals, rather than how it feels to dance. It is critical to remember that an embellishment must embellish our dance without hindering the connection to the music and to our partner. First, it must connect with you. Practice moves and put them to the music to see if they really work and if they feel authentic. If they feel stuck it is because they are not ready yet.
Be critical and realistic
Testing and experimenting is key, but so is being critical and realistic. It’s not about filling in spaces with robotic or stereotypical movements. Embellishment should flow naturally into your style and way of being. An embellishment that works for one dancer may not flatter you, and that’s okay. The search is personal and unique.
Finding your most sought after ornament
So what is your most sought after adornment – the one that makes you feel accepted, the one that elevates your level, or just the one that you enjoy and connects you more to tango? It’s crucial to have options and choose embellishments that benefit you and further your dance.
I would love to know what is your most sought after adornment, the one that makes you feel more accepted or the one that makes you feel empowered?

Dancing Tango Healthy, is not just an entertainment
Audio only in Spanish
Dear Tanguera,
The other Friday at the milonga, a Tanguera told me: «Dancing tango is healthy», and I took note of this comment. Tango is present in the best moments of life, but also in the most difficult ones. In moments of pain, tango saves you, helps you, accompanies you, and embraces you. The healing embrace of tango makes you feel accompanied and not alone, and it can heal in many ways: spiritually, mentally, physically, and socially. Dancing tango heals.
What heals? Who does tango heal?
Tango heals you, and you heal tango. I think it is a joint process. It is not only that tango heals you; we also give the healing power to this passionate, mysterious, intriguing, and challenging dance.
By dancing it, we give it life as well. It heals because we allow it, it heals because we open ourselves to that world and encourage ourselves to express with body and soul what is going on inside us.
How Tango Heals
Spiritual Healing: Tango has an emotional depth that allows connection with our deepest feelings. Each step, each movement can be an expression of our emotions, whether it is joy, sadness, love or heartbreak. This spiritual connection can be deeply healing.
Relevant phrase: «Tango is a sad thought that is danced.» – Enrique Santos Discépolo
Mental Healing: Dancing tango requires concentration and mindfulness, which helps to free the mind of worries and stress. The music and movement create a space where we can forget about our problems and simply enjoy the moment.
Relevant quote: «To dance tango is to dream with your feet.» – Jorge Luis Borges
Body Healing: Tango is a physical activity that improves cardiovascular health, coordination, and flexibility. Tango movements can also relieve muscle tension and improve posture.
Relevant quote: «The body says what words cannot.» – Martha Graham
Social Healing: Tango creates a community of people with common interests. This sense of belonging and social connection can be very beneficial to our emotional health.
Relevant phrase: «Tango embraces you and doesn’t let go.» – Anonymous
Healing Moments
When we have a disappointment in love: Tango can be a refuge in times of heartbreak. Dancing allows us to express our pain and, at the same time, find comfort in the embrace of a dance partner.
When we are happy: Tango celebrates life and joy. Dancing in moments of happiness magnifies our well-being and connects us with others in a shared celebration.
When a loved one is gone: Tango provides a way for us to process grief. Through music and movement, we can express our sadness and find comfort in the tango community.
When a friend needs a hug: Dancing tango is a way to offer support and affection. Our embrace can be a refuge for those in need, offering comfort and companionship.
The Power of the Embrace in Tango
The embrace in tango is fundamental. It is not just a dance technique, it is a form of deep and sincere communication. The embrace in tango is therapeutic because:
because: It connects us with the other at a deep level, beyond words. because: It offers comfort and emotional support. Because: It forces us to be present in the moment, creating a safe and welcoming space.
Final Reflection
Dancing tango is healthy because it allows us to open up and express our emotions through movement. It is healthy because it connects us with ourselves, with others and gives us a sense of community and belonging. Healthy because it allows us to dream, cry, laugh and feel alive.
And do you think that dancing tango is healthy or is it just entertainment?
Final phrase: «Dancing tango is like talking with your feet and listening with your heart». – Anonymous
